One of the key changes to the hospital’s April 15th economic proposal was an increase in the starting salary for all positions to a minimum of $17 per hour, applied before the Hospital’s proposed across-the-board increases. This provides sizable wage increases and gives the security and predictability of reliable wage increases over a four-year period. Because of the way this increase is structured, it’s more impactful than just increasing the starting salary:

On Scale Employee: A current full-time employee on scale at the Start Rate would move from $16.08/hr. to $17.51/hr. four weeks after ratification, which is a first-year increase of $2,974 and an 8.9% increase from their current rate (5.7% scale adjustment + 3% On Scale Across the Board Scale Increase). By the end of the 4-year contract, this employee’s rate would go from $16.08 to $20.27/hr. which is a 26% increase over 4 years.  

Off Scale Employee: A current full-time employee off scale making $21.79/hr. would move to $24.12/hr. four weeks after ratification which is a first-year increase of $4,909 and a 10.7% increase from their current rate (5.7% scale adjustment + 5% Off Scale Across the Board Scale Increase).  By the end of the 4-year contract, this employee’s rate would move from $21.79/hr. to $26.87/hr. which is a 23% increase over 4 years.
