The union presented a comprehensive package proposal, which offered modified responses to the three items discussed yesterday: Secretary Scheduling, Employee Cross-Training, and the Hospital’s proposed Workplace Violence Assistance Plan. The economic items in the union’s proposal remained mostly unchanged from their previous proposals, except that they proposed a 3-year agreement, rather than a 2-year agreement. |

Wednesday, June 4th
11:00 p.m. – Both sides agreed to end the session for the night. The Union informed the Hospital that they would have further response to Butler’s proposal by 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5th. |
8:30 p.m. – A small group of leaders from both sides met (along with the mediators) to discuss the day’s proposals. |
4:18 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. – The parties worked separately and engaged in off-the-record discussions. During the afternoon, the parties also met in a sidebar at the union’s request to discuss weekend rotation for cooks. |
4:18 p.m. – The Union emailed Butler counterproposals to three items the hospital had previously put forward. Two of the proposals were originally put forward back in April (concerning Secretary Scheduling and Cross-Training) and this was the first time the union had offered any response to these proposals. The Union also offered a counterproposal to the Hospital’s Workplace Violence Assistance Plan proposed at the 11:35 a.m. session; however, the Union’s proposed revisions would make the program non-compliant with IRS regulations, such that individuals who donate to the bank would be taxed for their contribution. The union also proposed that employees would not need to contribute in order to access the leave bank, which raises a concern that the bank would be underfunded, and not provide the intended benefit. |
12:10 p.m. – The sides retired to separate rooms to caucus. |
